Catherine Preston
I trained as a jewellery designer and silver-smith whilst living in Singapore and was thrilled to meet Nathalie and become part of the community she has created at HJI when I moved to Hong Kong in 2013. I met so many talented, creatives from all over the world through HJI and the atmosphere has always been one of tight-knit community and collaboration from the outset. There are endless opportunities from participating in joint exhibitions to taking classes in everything from rendering to
stone-setting and all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The tutors all have years of experience and a wealth of knowledge - I learnt so much. Having the support and encouragement of my HJI friends and colleagues gave me the confidence to take my business to new heights and I’ll always be grateful to them.
I’m now based back in the UK working with a variety of clients who all value thoughtful design and fine craftsmanship. Listening to their stories helps me to create incredibly personal pieces that connect them to loved ones or celebrate the milestones in their lives. Often working with rare cuts and unusual stones to create unique pieces that reflect the individuality of the wearer. Home is now rural England and I’m inspired by the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside every single day. As a nature lover, I am committed to working with ethically sourced gemstones and fair-traded metals. Philanthropy has been a core driver since the beginning and I value being able to use my creativity to make good things happen.
I have always loved craft and working with my hands. I did my first silversmithing class in 2010 when I was living in Singapore and became completely addicted.
