Learn the art of Japanese GOldsmithing

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Japanese goldsmithing with renowned goldsmith, Ruriko Ito, during this comprehensive 4-day course. Whether you are a novice or have prior experience, this class is designed to introduce you to the ancient art of hand engraving and help you refine your skills. Working alongside a group of fellow enthusiasts, you will have the opportunity to learn and practice various hand engraving techniques, enabling you to create intricate designs on your own unique pieces.

This course focuses on the mesmerizing craft of Chokin, a traditional form of Japanese engraving. You will discover the secrets behind this art form and learn how to create stunning, hand-engraved jewellery using specialized tools and techniques. By delving into the fundamental principles of Chokin engraving, you will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to breathe life into your designs on copper and silver.

The Course is led by our esteemed HJI instructor and Japanese jewellery goldsmith, Ruriko Ito. Internationally recognised, Ruriko has been invited to feature her works in jewellery exhibitions around the world including the JOYA Barcelona Art Jewelry Fair, the SICF Art Show in Japan, the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, and in MJW (Millan jewellery week). Ruriko teaches private and group jewellery-making classes at HJI.
