Learn how to design, handcraft, and assemble your very own timepiece

Learn the art of watchmaking and craft your own unique timepiece with our comprehensive watchmaking course. In this unique course, students will learn how to design, handcraft, and assemble a custom-designed watch. From crafting the watch case, watch bezel, and dial from sterling silver, students will assemble the pieces together using a classic Seiko NH35A premium mechanical movement with professional tools at our studio.

A fully guided experience

Our expert instructors will guide you through every step of the process, from designing and prototyping to assembling and testing your fully functional watch. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to create your own high-quality, one-of-a-kind watches. The following is a preview of the course experience.

  • Orientation and Introduction to the watch making landscape and industry insights.

  • Insight: Discover the anatomy of watches and how each part functions.

  • Design: Learn the best practices as your start plan and add your own creativity to designing your timepiece.

  • Craft: Work with high quality watch material at our studio, and practice your finishing using provided industry tools.

  • Precision: Our instructors will guide you to experiencing the fine craftsmanship of watch assembling.

  • Customize: Your creation will be unique and have your own personality, our processes are designed to bring out your inner creativity.

  • Handcrafted: Using pure silver, you will create your own custom parts, such as the dial, watch bezel and your own watch case.

Meet your tutor Jan Preece

 

The Course is led by our esteemed HJI Course and Studio Director, Jan Preece. A passionate and highly knowledgeable jeweller, Jan has helped hundreds of students create extraordinary pieces - with many going on to develop their skills to an advanced level.


FEE & Entry requirements:

22 sessions / 2.5 hours per session - HK$18,800
Add-on sessions/ 2.5 hours per session - HK$500 (can add up to 3 extra sessions to a total of 25 sessions)


No experience is necessary. For absolute beginners, preparatory classes are included to learn fundamental silversmithing techniques including saw piercing, soldering, filing, and finishing.
